    TL;DR

    • The Netherlands’ AFM publicly warned in September 2025 that MEXC was operating in the EU without MiCA authorization. MEXC told EU users to withdraw funds ahead of the July 1, 2026 deadline.
    • MEXC is not on the EU’s CASP register, and EU/EEA residents using it now are outside MiCA’s legal protections.
    • The picks below cover both angles: MiCA-licensed exchanges for EU users, and global exchanges with MEXC-like altcoin breadth for everyone else.

MEXC built its reputation on listing almost anything, often before other exchanges would touch it, with rock-bottom fees to match. That approach never squared well with MiCA. The Dutch AFM flagged MEXC for operating without authorization back in September 2025, and by June 2026 MEXC was telling its own EU users to pull their funds before the July 1 deadline hit.

If you’re an EU resident, that’s not optional anymore, MEXC isn’t a legal option for new EU business. If you’re elsewhere, you’re free to stay, but it’s worth knowing what a MiCA-licensed or otherwise well-regulated alternative gets you.

    7 Best MEXC Alternatives

    1. OKX — Closest Match on Coin Selection

OKX is the best fit for traders who picked MEXC for its listing speed and breadth. It’s licensed in Malta under MiCA for nine of the ten service categories, and it lists new tokens faster than most regulated exchanges. Fees are competitive without MEXC’s near-zero pricing, but the regulatory backing is the trade-off worth making.

    2. KuCoin — Deep Altcoins, With a Caveat

KuCoin matches MEXC on altcoin depth and low fees, and it does hold a MiCA license from Austria’s FMA. That said, Austria’s regulator banned KuCoin’s EU arm from onboarding new customers in February 2026 over compliance staffing gaps, a restriction only partially eased since. Existing accounts are unaffected; new EU sign-ups should check the FMA’s current notice first.

    3. Kraken — Best if Safety Matters Most

Kraken trades MEXC’s altcoin sprawl for a smaller, more curated listing process and no history of regulatory warnings. It was the first major exchange to secure full MiCA authorization and passports to all 30 EEA states.

    4. Bybit — Best for Low-Fee Derivatives

Bybit built a dedicated MiCA-licensed EU entity out of Vienna specifically to keep serving derivatives traders after the deadline. If MEXC’s futures and perpetuals were the draw, Bybit is the closer regulated match than a spot-focused exchange.

    5. Bitget — Wait and Watch

Bitget offers similar altcoin breadth and copy trading, but it hasn’t secured MiCA authorization yet either. Its Austrian application was still pending as of the July 2026 deadline, so EU users should treat it as unresolved rather than a safe landing spot right now.

    6. Bitvavo — Best for Euro Traders

Bitvavo is a much narrower coin list than MEXC’s, but it’s MiCA-licensed through the Netherlands’ AFM, with free SEPA and iDeal funding. For EU users who mostly trade major coins in euros, it’s a low-fee, low-hassle landing spot.

    7. Coinbase — Best for US Users

Coinbase is the obvious pick if you’re US-based and just want a MEXC replacement with a clean regulatory record, even though its altcoin list is far shorter.

    Why Move Off MEXC Now

    ✅ Reasons to switch

    • MEXC isn’t on the EU’s CASP register and has told EU users to withdraw.
    • The AFM’s September 2025 warning is a formal regulatory flag, not just a rumor.
    • MiCA-licensed alternatives offer segregated funds, capital requirements, and a supervised complaints process.

    ❌ What to watch for

    • No regulated exchange matches MEXC’s raw listing speed for brand-new tokens.
    • A license isn’t a permanent guarantee, as KuCoin’s 2026 restriction shows.
    • Fees on regulated exchanges are usually a bit higher than MEXC’s.

    5 Frequently Asked Questions

Is MEXC banned in the EU?

Not banned outright, but MEXC never secured a MiCA CASP license. The Dutch AFM warned in September 2025 that it was operating without authorization, and MEXC itself told EU users to withdraw funds ahead of the July 1, 2026 deadline.

Is my money safe on MEXC?

MEXC hasn’t been accused of insolvency or fraud, but operating without a MiCA license means EU users lose the legal protections, segregated funds, capital requirements, complaint handling, that licensed exchanges are required to provide.

What’s the closest exchange to MEXC on coin selection?

OKX and KuCoin both come closest to matching MEXC’s breadth, and both hold MiCA licenses, though KuCoin currently carries a compliance caveat worth checking before you sign up.

Can I still withdraw from MEXC?

MEXC has actively encouraged EU users to withdraw ahead of the deadline rather than blocking access outright. Don’t wait to move funds if you’re an EU resident.

Do non-EU users need to leave MEXC?

No. MiCA only governs the EU/EEA. Users elsewhere should evaluate MEXC on its own merits and local regulatory standing instead.

    The Bottom Line

MEXC’s EU exit isn’t ambiguous, the AFM flagged it and MEXC itself told users to withdraw. OKX and KuCoin come closest on altcoin selection, Kraken and Bitvavo are the safer, more conservative EU picks, and Bybit covers derivatives. If you’re an EU resident still holding funds on MEXC, move them now rather than waiting.

Editorial note: exchange licensing status reflects information available through July 1, 2026 and can change quickly. Confirm current status before moving funds. Nothing here is financial advice.
